Abstract

Introduction: Early weaning, defined as the cessation of breastfeeding before six months of age, is a global public health concern due to its potential negative impacts on infant health. Objective: To describe the risk factors for early weaning. The aim was also to describe the importance of breastfeeding for infant health and to identify actions to reduce the prevalence of early weaning with the cooperation of healthcare professionals. Materials and Methods: Literature review, conducted through bibliographic research, has an exploratory method and qualitative nature. To achieve the research, the search for relevant articles will be carried out in scientific databases such as Google Scholar, BVS, SciElo. Results: Identifying and addressing risk factors for early weaning is essential to promote exclusive breastfeeding up to six months of age. Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding is widely recognized as an essential practice for the health and well-being of both mother and infant. The numerous benefits of breastfeeding, from protection against infections to promoting mother-child bonding, are widely supported by scientific literature.
