Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is the most common renal disorder in domestic cats and is characterized by structural and/or functional alterations in one or both kidneys lasting longer than three months. The disease may result from different conditions that promote progressive and irreversible renal damage, compromising body homeostasis. The present study aimed to perform a literature review on CKD in felines and to evaluate animal owners’ perception regarding the disease through a questionnaire conducted using Google Forms. Knowledge related to clinical signs, prevention methods, water intake management, nutrition, and veterinary follow-up was assessed. The results demonstrated that most participants had previous knowledge about the disease; however, important limitations regarding preventive measures and early recognition of clinical signs were still observed. Low adherence to preventive laboratory testing was also identified. It is concluded that educational strategies directed toward cat animal owners are essential to increase awareness about feline CKD and to encourage early diagnosis, contributing to better quality of life for affected animals.
