Abstract

Objectives: To discuss the nursing care provided to obese patients in Intensive Care Units. Methodology: This is an integrative review, conducted using publications from the last ten years, available in the SciELO, PubMed, and Virtual Health Library databases. Results: The search yielded 65 articles, of which 10 met the eligibility criteria. Nursing care for severely obese patients in Intensive Care Units faces significant challenges, such as difficulty in patient mobilization and positioning, the need for adapted equipment, and the emotional impact on the nursing team. The importance of an individualized care plan, based on injury prevention, patient safety, and humanization of care, was highlighted. Conclusion: The quality of care for obese patients in Intensive Care Units depends on the structural adequacy of the units, the continuous training of nursing professionals, and the availability of appropriate material resources. Investing in continuing education and specific care protocols is essential to promote effective, safe, and patient-centered care.
