THE PSYCHOLOGIST IN PALLIATIVE CARE: A PERSPECTIVE ON FINITUDE

Abstract

This article seeks to understand the role of the psychologist in palliative care, analyzing how qualified listening and emotional support can contribute to the mental health of patients in the final stages of life. The research was developed through a literature review, based on data from the World Health Organization and specialized literature on palliative care, analyzing how psychologists assist in coping with emotional issues mainly related to the dying process, giving new meaning to the experience of terminality through support provided both to patients and their families. It seeks to highlight how psychological practice strengthens communication among the multidisciplinary team, patients, and families, contributing to a more integrated and humanized practice, while emphasizing the importance of having a psychologist involved in care and well-being in the face of the adverse conditions of this process.
