THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FAMILY IN THE TREATMENT OF DRUG ADDICTION: A LITERATURE REVIEW FROM A SYSTEMIC PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the role of the family in the treatment of drug addiction from the Family Systems Perspective, which understands the family as an interconnected system, with symptoms being a manifestation of dysfunction in the family group's interaction patterns. The methodology adopted was a narrative literature review, based on books on systemic theory and scientific research from databases such as Scielo and BVS Saúde. The research is justified by the social relevance of the topic, given that drug addiction is recognized as a serious public health problem that generates profound impact and suffering throughout the family nucleus, such as exposure to conflict, codependency, and emotional overload, which can reinforce patterns that hinder the achievement of the ultimate goal: the addict's recovery. Therefore, the work becomes relevant by recognizing the importance of the family system as a protective factor against drug use and relapse prevention, contributing to the success of the rehabilitation process.
