Postpartum depression (PPD) is an affective disorder that affects a significant number of women after giving birth, with potential repercussions for mother and baby. This article reviews the scientific literature on PPD, exploring its causes, symptoms, consequences and treatment strategies. Through a critical analysis of recent studies, we identify risk factors, effective therapeutic approaches, and the long-term implications of PPD for maternal mental health and child development. This work aims to provide a deeper understanding of the ramifications of PPD and offer directions for future research and clinical interventions.
