Abstract

Augmentation mammoplasty is currently the most performed cosmetic surgery in the world. This study aims to evaluate the real impacts that these substances can have on the human body. As well as evaluating the existence of adverse effects with short and long term use, whether they are minor complications or illnesses that develop after this surgery. The databases used were the National Library of Medicine, Virtual Health Library and Directory of Open Access Journals with the descriptors: “autoimmune syndrome”, “breast implant” and “silicone” using the Boolean operator “and”. The search filters applied were clinical trial, journal article, articles published from 2011 to 2021, open access articles, articles published in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The results of the selected studies evaluated the side effects present in patients after breast implant placement presenting adjuvant-induced autoimmune inflammatory syndrome, among other symptoms. Breast implants have always generated studies regarding their effect on patients' bodies, among these effects, the ASIA Syndrome is a complication for those who undergo this surgery, but it needs more epidemiological studies for its validation in the scientific community.
