Abstract

The global COVID-19 pandemic, started in 2019 by a variant of the coronavirus, brought a feeling of fear to the world due to the large number of deaths from the disease. Most of those infected by the virus in question develop mild symptoms, but a group of individuals, especially risk groups which are immunocompromised patients, chronic and comorbid patients, can develop severe symptoms, in which acute respiratory syndrome is the main complication described. In addition, another concern concomitant with coronavirus symptoms, bacterial coinfection, can lead to fatal outcomes due to its severity, especially in patients who require invasive intervention, such as mechanical ventilation and deep catheter accesses, which can spread these microorganisms and lead to generalized infection and sepsis. Thus, this narrative review aims to synthesize points related to COVID 19 and its complication by bacterial coinfection.
