ORAL SINUSE COMMUNICATION: FROM CLINICAL MANAGEMENT TO SURGICAL APPROACH

Abstract

Buco-signal communication usually occurs as a result of extraction of the upper posterior teeth, due to their proximity to the maxillary sinus. As with several accidents that can occur during a tooth extraction, oral sinus communication must be treated with careful attention, thus avoiding contamination by saliva and food that can lead to a bacterial infection. The objective of this work is, through a literature review, to address the prevention, clinical and surgical management of oral sinus communication. In order to guide health professionals on the importance of planning and implementing safe treatment in this region. In view of this, the methods used were through searches of scientific articles indexed in PubMed and SciELO databases. The maxillary sinus is an anatomical structure of the maxilla and is considered the largest paranasal sinus. The treatment varies according to the diameter of the communication, and the literature reports different forms of treatment to close the oral sinus communication. In view of this, it can be concluded that the observation of the anatomical limits of the maxillary sinus prior to surgical procedures is of paramount importance for the planning and correct execution of the appropriate treatment for each patient.
