ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS IN WOMEN AND INSOMNIA: CASE REPORT

Abstract

Ankylosing spondylitis is part of a large group of spondyloarthritis, as well as: psoriatic arthritis (APs), enteropathic arthropathies (AE), reactive arthritis (ARe), undifferentiated spondyloarthritis (EI) and juvenile spondylarthritis (EJ). AE is a chronic inflammatory disease, autoimmune, progressive, which mainly affects the axial skeleton (spine, sacriliac and hip), can often affect peripheral joints. The diagnosis is based on articular and extra-articular manifestations. The clinical picture and targeted examinations provide some criteria for the classification of AS, the most important being the modified New York (mNY), from 1984. This study reports the case of a patient with ankylosing spondylitis who started in adolescence. The patient went through several professionals and only 25 years later managed to close the diagnosis. After two weeks of treatment, he observed a significant improvement in quality of life, but still without stopping the pain definitely. This study concluded the importance of discussing and establishing an early diagnosis and its association with quality of life, with an emphasis on insomnia.
