This article aimed to analyze, using public data from the Department of Informatics of the Brazilian Unified Health System (DATASUS), births and deaths at the Hospital Regional da Mulher Parteira Maria Correia, in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, from 2023 to 2025, and to discuss the role of the pharmacist in the multidisciplinary team caring for pregnant women. This is a descriptive, retrospective and quantitative study based on microdata from the Live Birth Information System (SINASC) and the Mortality Information System (SIM), combined with a narrative literature review. The hospital began recording births in August 2025 and totaled 480 live births by December, with 73.1% caesarean sections, 23.2% preterm births and 17.1% low birth weight; 97.5% of mothers lived outside Mossoró. SIM recorded seven deaths at the facility: six older women, five of them with sepsis in the causal chain, and one neonatal death due to extreme immaturity. Among Mossoró residents, bacterial sepsis of the newborn was the most frequent specific cause of infant death. The findings reveal concrete pharmacotherapeutic demands, such as antenatal corticosteroids, magnesium sulfate, antibiotic prophylaxis and rational antimicrobial use, which make the clinical pharmacist a necessary member of the team.
