CASE REPORT: EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTS OF CANNABIDIOL AS AN ADJUVANT RESOURCE IN THE PHYSIOTHERAPEUTIC TREATMENT OF PEDIATRIC PATIENTS WITH HOLOPROSENCEPHALY

Abstract

Introduction: Holoprosencephaly (HPE) is a rare congenital malformation of the central nervous system, frequently associated with neurological, motor, respiratory impairments, and difficult-to-control seizures. Objective: To evaluate the effects of cannabidiol as an adjuvant resource in the physiotherapeutic treatment of a pediatric patient with holoprosencephaly. Methodology: This is a descriptive and longitudinal case report conducted in the city of Gurupi-TO. Functional assessment was performed using the Functional Status Scale (FSS), applied before and after three months of physiotherapeutic follow-up associated with continuous cannabidiol use. Results: Improvements were observed in mental status, communication, motor functionality, and respiratory status, in addition to a reduction in seizure frequency and greater tolerance to physiotherapeutic interventions. Conclusion: The findings suggest that the association between cannabidiol use and physiotherapy may positively contribute to global functionality and clinical stability in pediatric patients with holoprosencephaly. However, further studies with larger sample sizes are necessary to strengthen the scientific evidence.
