ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT OF NURSING STAFF AT A UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Abstract

This quantitative cross-sectional study assessed the ergonomic risks associated with musculoskeletal disorders, identified the epidemiological profile, and analyzed the working conditions of the nursing staff in critical areas of a University Hospital in Pernambuco, Brazil. Data collection took place between March and June 2025 in the Surgical Center, Intensive Care Unit, and Central Sterile Supply Department, using sociodemographic and clinical questionnaires and the Nordic Standard Questionnaire. The sample included 60 participants, with a 71.6% female prevalence. Multivariate analysis associated musculoskeletal pain with the use of PPE (92.1%), level of discomfort (57.9%), standing for more than six hours (63.2%), and lack of ergonomics training (65.8%). It was concluded that the neck, shoulders, and cervical spine were the most affected regions. Multiple ergonomic factors compromise the health of these professionals, making preventive training and improvements in working conditions essential.
