This study addresses mental health and socioemotional development in the school context, focusing on the experiences of basic education students. Its objective was to analyze how schools can contribute to mental health care and to the strengthening of students’ socioemotional skills. Methodologically, it is a qualitative, bibliographic research based on the analysis of books, scientific articles, monographs, and other academic works available in electronic databases. The results show that schools play a relevant role in promoting emotional well-being, preventing psychological distress, and fostering more respectful and welcoming relationships. In this process, pedagogical practices based on listening, dialogue, and coexistence stand out, as well as the strengthening of the relationship between school and family. In addition, teacher training and the planning of institutional actions aimed at emotional care prove to be fundamental for building a healthier school environment. It is concluded that valuing mental health and socioemotional education is an essential element for the integral formation of students, contributing to their school retention and full development.
