HEALTH EDUCATION INTERVENTION CARRIED OUT IN A BASIC HEALTH UNIT: EXPERIENCE REPORT

Abstract

This study sought to report out an educational action in a Primary Health Care Center in the municipality of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. After identifying and analyzing the educational needs, an intervention related to Urgent and Emergency Care in Primary Health Care was implemented. The educational action followed the stages of: assessment of educational needs; definition of educational objectives; preparation; implementation; and evaluation. The action was grounded in cognitivist, humanist, and progressive educational theories. The pedagogical approach was centered on health professionals through discussion groups and realistic simulation. The results indicated that the training was a priority at that time and was well received by the professionals, leading to increased confidence and motivation to act in urgent situations within primary health care. The activity showed positive outcomes, demonstrating that most participants learned from the intervention; however, it also highlighted shortcomings in dealing with urgent and emergency situations in primary health care. This report emphasizes the relevance of organizing continuing health education actions, underscoring the importance of understanding learners’ needs to ensure efficient and safe professional practice and to contribute to comprehensive care.
