SURVEY OF THE USE OF DRUGS UNDER SPECIAL CONTROL IN OBSTETRIC PROCEDURES IN A PUBLIC MATERNITY HOSPITAL IN RIO GRANDE DO NORTE

Abstract

The use of prescription drugs is frequent in the obstetric setting, requiring careful prescribing, administration, and monitoring due to their potential risks and the legal requirements established by Ordinance No. 344/1998. In this context, the role of pharmacists stands out, contributing to pharmacovigilance and patient safety. This study aims to analyze the use profile of prescription drugs in a public maternity hospital and highlight the pharmacist's contribution to this process. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, conducted in a maternity hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Medical records were reviewed and data collected over a 40-day period, with information extracted from prescriptions for prescription drugs such as misoprostol, morphine, and anticonvulsants. The results of this analysis are expected to reinforce the importance of pharmacists in promoting rational medication use and implementing pharmacovigilance practices in obstetric settings.
