ROLE OF THE OBSTETRIC NURSE IN HUMANIZED CHILDBIRTH CENTERED ON THE PATIENT'S NEEDS

Abstract

Introduction: Humanized childbirth is a care model that prioritizes respect, autonomy, and women's protagonism. The role of the obstetric nurse in humanized childbirth care is fundamental for the promotion of maternal and neonatal health. Humanized practices are associated with better perinatal outcomes, including lower rates of unnecessary cesarean sections, reduced complications, and greater satisfaction of women with the childbirth experience. In this way, the obstetric nurse not only contributes to improving the quality of care, but also to promoting a culture of respect and dignity in the obstetric environment. Objective: To analyze the role of the obstetric nurse in humanized childbirth care centered on the patient's needs. Methodology: This is a qualitative literature review. Analysis and discussion of the results: After reading the selected articles, three categories emerged: practices of the obstetric nurse in promoting humanized childbirth, contributions of the obstetric nurse's role to the needs of women in childbirth, and challenges and limitations in implementing humanized childbirth care. Conclusion: It is concluded that the role of the obstetric nurse in promoting a humanized birth is extremely important to ensure that women's needs are met with respect, dignity and autonomy. Through practices of welcoming, active listening and encouraging female protagonism, it was possible to demonstrate how the obstetric nurse contributes to a more respectful and woman-centered birth, in line with humanization guidelines and public health policies.
