Abstract

Introduction: Neck pain is a very common symptom and is often related to the maintenance of inappropriate postures. Because pain has a multifactorial cause, the possibility that prolonged smartphone use, as well as other technologies, can also act as a risk factor for the development of musculoskeletal disorders, especially in the neck region, is already being discussed. Objective: To classify the functional capacity of the cervical region due to the excessive use of smartphones and electronic devices in students of the Biomedicine course of a Private Higher Education Institution. Methodology: This was a study conducted in April 2024, composed of 68 Biomedicine students from a Private Higher Education Institution, where the Neck Disability Index (NDI - BR) questionnaire was applied. Results: A significant correlation was found between the final score and the questions in the questionnaire (risk factors for neck pain). When comparing the genders, it was found that females have a higher risk of neck pain than males. Conclusion: Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the students evaluated were categorized with minimal disability according to the Neck Disability Index (NDI) questionnaire. It was also observed that females have a higher risk of neck pain than males.
