Abstract

Tempering is one of the most widely used metallurgical processes since its discovery, with the aim of achieving improved hardness and mechanical strength properties. It consists of two stages: heating and rapid cooling. The article below presents the results of a final course project in the form of a scientific article on the application of carbon nanotubes with different concentrations. These were diluted in water at concentrations of 0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.2%. Afterward, the submerged pieces were cut in half using a cut-off method and analyzed through an optical microscope. Additionally, hardness was assessed using the Rockwell C test. Based on the methodology and equipment used for the measurements, it was found that there was no significant change in the results of the heat treatment when using carbon nanotubes.
