THE BEAUTY STEREOTYPE IN THE USE OF ANABOLIC SYSTEMS: BENEFITS AND HARMS

Abstract

Introduction: Currently, there is a search for bodies within aesthetic standards where people are influenced by the media, culture and social environments. To do so, they submit themselves to various resources that put their health at risk. One of these resources is the use of anabolic steroids. Objective: This study had as its general objective to carry out a literature review on the beneficial and harmful effects of the use of anabolic steroids for aesthetic purposes. Methodology: This study is a descriptive literature review with a qualitative approach, using articles published between 2019 and 2024. Results: The improper and abusive use of androgenic anabolic steroids is related to the body aesthetic standard imposed by the media, making people feel increasingly dissatisfied with their bodies and seek to conform to such pre-established standards. Conclusion: It is important to recognize that, when taken in a controlled manner, under medical guidance and with the supervision of a pharmacist, anabolic steroids present numerous health benefits, resulting in greater well-being and quality of life for the individual.
