ACUTE INTESTINAL OBSTRUCTION: CHALLENGES IN DIAGNOSIS AND SURGICAL MANAGEMENT

Abstract

Acute Intestinal Obstruction (OIA) is a complex surgical emergency, characterized by partial or total interruption of intestinal transit, with causes ranging from postoperative adhesions to intestinal neoplasms. Its symptoms, such as intense abdominal pain and vomiting, require a thorough clinical evaluation, supported by laboratory and imaging tests, with emphasis on computed tomography for diagnostic confirmation. Treatment requires immediate intervention, often surgical, with techniques such as enterectomy, aderolysis and segmental resection, combined with the use of corticosteroids and antibiotics to reduce inflammation and prevent infections. Given this, a multidisciplinary approach is essential to ensure effective management of OIA, aiming to improve clinical outcomes and reduce complications for affected patients.
