SECONDARY EQUINE SINUSITIS: CASE REPORT

Abstract

Sinusitis in horses can be classified as primary with viral or bacterial etiology and secondary related to underlying diseases such as dental disease, and its diagnosis is based on the association between detailed anamnesis, thorough physical examination, imaging resources together with laboratory tests. The treatment of secondary sinusitis is based on the extraction of the affected molar or premolar teeth together with bone trepanation. The present work aims to present a case report of an 11-year-old mare diagnosed with alveolar periostitis in tooth 211 and unilateral muco-purulent nasal discharge, where intraoral extraction was performed together with bone trepanation with the animal under neuroleptoanalgesia and in quadrupedal position.
