Abstract

The restoration of endodontically treated teeth represents a major challenge in current clinical practice. The loss of dental structure is the primary factor that increases the risk of tooth fracture in these elements. In this context, different restorative techniques are routinely applied, each with its specificities, including their advantages, disadvantages, limitations, and protocols. The objective of this study is to describe, through an integrative literature review, the various rehabilitative modalities in post-endodontic therapy teeth, emphasizing the peculiar characteristics of each technique. Articles indexed in the following databases were included: Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), BVS (Virtual Health Library), United States National Library of Medicine (PubMed), and Google Scholar, which are available in full text, free of charge, without language restrictions, published between 2020 and 2025, and classified as literature reviews, case studies, randomized clinical trials, and systematic reviews addressing the main restorative techniques for endodontically treated teeth. The following Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) were employed: “tratamento de canal,” “dentes tratados endodonticamente,” “dentística operatória,” “root canal treatment,” “endodontically treated teeth,” “operating dentistry.” After reading the titles and abstracts in each database, and excluding duplicates, 35 articles were selected with coherent and relevant information for the reader’s understanding. It is evident that there is a wide variety of techniques to rehabilitate endodontically treated teeth; however, a critical analysis regarding the correct indication of each therapeutic modality is essential. Appropriate restorative treatment after endodontic therapy prevents microleakage of root canals, in addition to tooth fractures, consequently enabling high levels of clinical success. Furthermore, new randomized clinical studies are necessary to establish more precise clinical protocols, thus allowing greater predictability and longevity in endodontic and restorative treatment.
