FOR AN ANTI-RACIST CHILD EDUCATION

Abstract

Perceiving Early Childhood Education as a potentially creative space to promote anti-racist practices and recognizing the socio-historical and cultural importance of children to overcome the problems that involve ethnic-racial issues, this study aims to reflect on the pedagogical possibilities for an anti-racist Early Childhood Education. It is characterized as an exploratory bibliographical research, with a qualitative approach based on Cultural Studies in Education. The importance of Early Childhood Education in the child's life was verified and, to the extent that it recognizes and values school diversity, and combats the silencing, invisibilization and inferiorization of cultural identities, we may have the chance to move towards anti-racist educational practices. Therefore, there is a need for professionals involved in the education of children to critically analyze the racist attitudes and expressions that are often naturalized in everyday school life, as well as to ensure opportunities for continuing teacher training and pedagogical proposals that have the fight against racism as one of their basic principles.
