The reduction in underweight alone does not represent an improvement in the nutritional profile of a population, particularly when accompanied by an increase in excess weight. In this context, the present study aimed to analyze the evolution of nutritional status indicators in Paraná between 2013 and 2024, identifying the main changes observed during the period. The categories of underweight, adequate weight, overweight, and obesity grades I, II, and III were analyzed based on data from the Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (SISVAN). A descriptive analysis of the percentage distribution of nutritional status categories was performed, with comparisons among Paraná, the Southern Region, and Brazil. The results showed a reduction in the percentage of underweight individuals in Paraná, concomitant with an increase in overweight, evidencing a change in the nutritional profile of the population over the period. Therefore, the reduction in underweight occurred alongside the growth of excess weight, characterizing the coexistence of different manifestations of malnutrition in the state. The findings highlight the need to interpret nutritional indicators in an integrated manner and to strengthen food and nutrition surveillance actions, the promotion of adequate and healthy diets, the encouragement of physical activity, and the prevention and management of obesity.
