Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant public health concern due to its progressive nature, high morbidity and mortality rates, and strong association with cardiovascular complications. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of patients with chronic kidney disease in the municipalities of Juazeiro-BA and Petrolina-PE from 2020 to 2024. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, based on secondary data extracted from DATASUS/TABNET, organized in Microsoft Excel® spreadsheets and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that, between 2020 and 2024, a total of 303 attendances were recorded in the two municipalities, with a higher concentration in Petrolina (65.1%) compared to Juazeiro (34.9%). The prevalence of CKD was mainly observed among individuals aged 61 to 80 years, with a predominance of males, although fluctuations between genders were noted over the years. There was a significant increase in cases from 2022, peaking in 2023 and followed by a decline in 2024. The association between CKD and cardiovascular diseases was also found to significantly increase mortality risk, compromising patients’ quality of life. It is concluded that continuous monitoring, prevention of comorbidities, and integrated action by the multidisciplinary team are essential to reduce complications, improve prognosis, and strengthen Primary Health Care as a strategy for early detection and ongoing follow-up of patients with CKD.
