Abstract

The therapeutic use of Cannabis sativa in dentistry has been studied due to its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anxiolytic properties. Research indicates that cannabinoids, especially cannabidiol (CBD), have potential for managing orofacial pain, treating periodontal diseases, and reducing anxiety in dental patients. Recent studies demonstrate the efficacy of CBD in controlling acute and neuropathic dental pain, making it a promising alternative to conventional opioids and anti-inflammatory drugs. Additionally, there is evidence that cannabinoids contribute to reducing gingival inflammation, aiding in the treatment of periodontal diseases. Another identified benefit is the positive impact on pre-procedural anxiety, providing greater comfort to patients with dental phobias.
