Abstract

Introduction: Cannabis sativa contains more than 400 chemical compounds, with more than 60 active compounds, including cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids, which contribute to its diverse effects on the human body. Its therapeutic potential has been increasingly investigated and valued in modern medicine. Among the compounds present in Cannabis sativa, we have Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which has psychoactive properties, cannabidiol (CBD), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC) and cannabidiva (CBDV) are without effects. Objective: the therapeutic action of cannabidiol on endocannabinoid receptors in the treatment of chronic pain was evaluated. Methodology: This was a descriptive literature review on the therapeutic action of cannabidiol on endocannabinoid receptors in the treatment of chronic pain between the years 2019 to 2025. Comprising a period of 5 (five) years, publications in Portuguese or English, having in the title or abstract at least one of the descriptors used in the search criteria and made available free of charge on the internet. The data will be collected according to the SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) and LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences) databases. Expected results: The aim of this study was to describe the interaction of cannabinoids with endocannabinoid receptors and their correlation with chronic pain. By understanding the action of these receptors together with the appropriate pharmacological action, it is possible to obtain an increase in the therapeutic efficacy of people with chronic pain and thus helping to improve the lives of this population.
