CHEMOTHERAPY AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH CARDIOTOXICITY: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract

This article addresses new methodologies in the treatment of neoplasms, resulting in increased patient survival and quality of life, but also the side effects arising from this intervention, with an emphasis on cardiotoxicity, particularly related to the anthracycline class. The objective of the article is to analyze the toxic effects of chemotherapy agents on the cardiovascular system, as well as to explore possibilities for mitigating these effects in order to maintain treatment efficacy and patient safety. The methodology included an integrative literature review using the PubMed and LILACS databases. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 31 relevant articles were selected. The study found a correlation between chemotherapy treatment and cardiotoxicity and that, in cumulative doses, it can cause left ventricular dysfunction, especially in patients with advanced age, multiple comorbidities, genetic predisposition, and use of other concomitant therapies. Anthracyclines stand out, especially doxorubicin, with other drugs mentioned: nivolumab (fulminant myocarditis and potentially fatal arrhythmias) and trastuzumab (in association with anthracyclines). The conclusions indicate that there is a clear correlation between chemotherapy treatment and cardiotoxicity, in addition to the increase in cardiac biomarkers. Therefore, multidisciplinary approaches are necessary to preserve cardiac function and improve outcomes for the patients in question.article aims to discuss the appreciation of the brand's defense strategy and its reputation for the corporate institution's image in the face of attacks and criticisms of the quality of its products and services, inevitably exposing its brands in social networks.
