The general objective of this study was to study the use of police intelligence as a way of combating crime and the possible challenges that arise in this regard. This was a narrative literature review based on bibliographic research of material that addresses the proposed theme. The results showed that the challenges imposed by the products resulting from the action of police intelligence in criminal investigations must be overcome in order to achieve the numerous benefits that this procedure can bring with the information from this type of action in preventing crime. It can be concluded that it is important to establish an approach with greater integration and collaboration between the different security agencies and jurisdictions, ensuring that intelligence operations are not compromised due to regulatory or logistical restrictions. Police intelligence has the potential to be a fundamental component in combating crime, marked by the adoption and improvement of practices that are based on data and information that allow for a more strategic and informed approach.
