Abstract

This article proposes the development of an intelligent irrigation system capable of integrating meteorological data and local soil moisture sensors to optimize water use and reduce waste. The solution is based on the ESP32 microcontroller, which connects to the internet to obtain weather forecast information, such as probability and volume of precipitation, and combines this data with measurements taken directly from the soil. From this information, the system processes decision rules that determine whether irrigation should be carried out, postponed, or adjusted in intensity, avoiding common situations where irrigation is carried out shortly before rain, which leads to wasted resources. When irrigation is necessary, the ESP32 activates the water pump, performing the process automatically. Furthermore, the system can send data to online monitoring platforms, allowing the user to track soil and weather conditions in real time, as well as the irrigation history. Thus, the proposal seeks to promote environmental sustainability, reduce maintenance costs, and modernize agricultural practices, while contributing to better working conditions in the field, combining the concepts of automation, the Internet of Things, and energy efficiency.
