Abstract

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common condition among pregnant women, with a significant prevalence due to anatomical and physiological changes that occur during pregnancy. This literature review aims to analyze the risk factors, complications, and management strategies for urinary tract infection in pregnant women, based on studies published in the last five years. Pregnant women are more predisposed to UTI due to ureteral dilation and bladder compression, which results in urinary stasis. In addition, hormonal effects also contribute to increased risk. Untreated infections can progress to serious complications such as pyelonephritis, premature birth, and low birth weight. Early screening and treatment are essential to prevent complications. Recent studies emphasize the importance of using appropriate antibiotics, considering the safety of both mother and fetus. It is concluded that effective management of UTI in pregnant women requires a multidisciplinary approach, including early screening, immediate treatment, and continuous monitoring throughout pregnancy.
