INTERVENTIONS TO REDUCE MATERNAL MORTALITY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract

Maternal mortality remains a significant challenge in developing countries, despite global efforts to reduce it. This integrative review aims to assess key interventions that contribute to reducing maternal mortality in these contexts. Studies published between 2010 and 2023 were analyzed, highlighting the importance of multifaceted approaches, such as strengthening emergency obstetric care, increasing access to family planning, and training health professionals. Low-cost interventions, such as the use of uterotonics to prevent postpartum hemorrhage, have also proven effective. However, the effectiveness of these interventions is intrinsically linked to local health infrastructure and the support of robust public policies. The review concludes that, despite progress, sustainable reduction of maternal mortality requires a continued commitment to strengthening health systems and implementing solutions adapted to regional needs.
