MANAGEMENT OF CHRONIC DISEASES IN CLINICAL CONSULTATIONS: STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING ADHERENCE TO TREATMENT

Abstract

This study performed an integrative review to identify and analyze the main strategies used to improve treatment adherence in patients with chronic diseases during clinical consultations. Technological, educational, behavioral and multidisciplinary interventions were reviewed, highlighting the importance of a multifaceted and patient-centered approach. Technological interventions, such as mobile applications and telemedicine, have shown promise, but their effectiveness depends on accessibility and digital literacy of patients. Health education programs, when personalized, have shown significant effectiveness in empowering patients and improving adherence. Behavioral interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, helped to overcome emotional and psychological barriers, while a multidisciplinary approach proved to be essential for coordinated and holistic care. The quality of communication between physician and patient emerged as a central factor in promoting treatment adherence. It is concluded that the combination of these strategies, adjusted to the individual needs of patients, is essential to optimize clinical outcomes and quality of life.
