CLOSURE OF ORAL-SINUSAL COMMUNICATION WITH ORAL ADIPOSE BODY ASSOCIATED WITH COLLAGEN MEMBRANE: A CLINICAL CASE REPORT

Abstract

Introduction: Oral-sinusal communication is a clinical situation that occurs frequently, especially in cases of maxillary molar extractions. Currently, there are several forms of surgical and drug treatment that are effective in managing this complication, with the size of the communication being a decisive factor in the choice of treatment. Aim: To report a clinical case of an oral-sinusal communication treated surgically using a fat pad and collagen membrane. Case report: A 50-year-old female patient with no comorbidities was admitted to the oral and maxillofacial surgery department of the Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital after an unsuccessful attempt to close an oral and sinus communication. On intraoral examination, a Valsalva maneuver was performed, which proved to be positive for the communication, and radiographic examination showed bone discontinuity between the palate and maxillary sinus. The proposed treatment was surgical closure using the buccal fat pad associated with a collagen membrane. Conclusion: The literature shows that the use of the Bichat Ball associated with the collagen membrane provides satisfactory results in closing the communication, with almost no complications when used correctly.
