PALLIATIVE ANTINEOPLASTIC THERAPY FOR THE TREATMENT OF MAXILLOFACIAL OSTEOSARCOMA IN A DOG

Abstract

Maxillofacial osteosarcoma is a rare malignant bone neoplasm that primarily affects flat bones. It is associated with genetic factors, with a higher predisposition in large or giant breed dogs. Diagnosis is based on radiographic findings, and confirmation is obtained through histopathological examination. This case report describes a 6-year-old female French Bulldog with maxillofacial osteosarcoma. The patient presented to Aukmia Veterinary Hospital with a localized swelling on the right side of the face. The diagnosis was confirmed through histopathological examination, which revealed the presence of atypical cellular proliferation of slightly elongated star-shaped cells. The patient underwent antineoplastic therapy with carboplatin combined with firocoxib, with three sessions performed. However, after the third session, the patient's clinical condition worsened, leading to euthanasia.
