BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW: A HOLISTIC VIEW OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is already a reality in a considerable number of the Brazilian population, and pregnant women are not staying out of it. In recent years, the number of pregnant women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus has been increasing considerably, a pathology that causes maternal-fetal problems when not diagnosed early and treated properly. The aim of this study is to show that the disease is routine in the obstetric environment and that there is evidence that non-pharmacological, insulin and oral hypoglycemic treatments have shown good results. To fulfill the proposed objective, a cross-sectional observational study was used. Undoubtedly, treating the pregnant woman brings security to everyone involved, but it is noteworthy that even in the puerperal period, 6 weeks after delivery, it is essential for the puerperal woman to perform the 75g TOTG of dextro to find out if she has only developed gestational diabetes mellitus or if she became a carrier of the disease.
