This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of post-extraction alveolar preservation in maintaining bone volume for rehabilitation with dental implants. The research is justified by the high occurrence of bone remodeling after tooth extraction, a process that can compromise implant placement and the aesthetic and functional results of oral rehabilitation. This is an integrative literature review, with a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical approach, conducted in the PubMed, LILACS, and SciELO databases between March and May 2026. After the screening and eligibility process, 15 articles comprised the final sample of the review. The results demonstrated that alveolar preservation significantly reduces horizontal and vertical bone loss when compared to spontaneous healing, favoring better conditions for dental implant placement. Furthermore, a wide diversity of surgical techniques, biomaterials, and clinical protocols used was observed, although the literature still presents methodological heterogeneity. It is concluded that alveolar preservation represents an important therapeutic strategy in contemporary implant dentistry, contributing to greater functional and aesthetic predictability of restorative treatments.
