Tirzepatide, a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, has gained prominence in the pharmacological treatment of obesity because it promotes substantial body weight reduction in adults with obesity or overweight associated with comorbidities. Despite favorable clinical results, its use does not replace continuous nutritional care, since intense appetite reduction may compromise protein, fiber, vitamin, mineral and fluid intake, as well as contribute to gastrointestinal discomfort and loss of lean mass when follow-up is inadequate. This study aimed to analyze the use of tirzepatide for weight loss and discuss the importance of nutritional counseling for safety, adherence and long-term maintenance of results. This is a narrative bibliographic review with a qualitative approach, based on scientific articles, clinical trials and official documents published between 2020 and 2026. It is concluded that tirzepatide should be understood as a complementary therapeutic resource, whose effectiveness depends on the integration of medical prescription, individualized dietary guidance, nutrition education, physical activity and multidisciplinary monitoring.
