Abstract

This article sought to analyze the impact of digital technologies on the planning and execution of orthognathic surgery, focusing on the evolution of imaging methods and the adoption of minimally invasive techniques. It is a literature review based on articles published between 2018 and 2026, selected from the PubMed/MEDLINE, SciELO, and Virtual Health Library databases, using descriptors related to orthognathic surgery, three-dimensional imaging, and digital technologies. The results showed that tools such as cone-beam computed tomography, virtual surgical planning, intraoral scanning, and 3D printing significantly increase diagnostic accuracy and the predictability of surgical outcomes. In addition, it was observed that the incorporation of these technologies contributes to reduced operative time, fewer errors, and improved aesthetic and functional outcomes. Minimally invasive techniques, in turn, demonstrated advantages such as lower morbidity, faster recovery, and greater patient comfort. It is concluded that the digital revolution has promoted significant advances in orthognathic surgery, making procedures safer and more efficient. However, there remains a need for professional training and further studies to consolidate protocols and expand the applicability of these technologies in clinical practice.
