THE USE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES OF SMILES IN HUMAN IDENTIFICATION: CASE REPORT

Abstract

Due to all the limitations encountered in establishing human identity in complex cases and with the great popularization of digital photographs, especially with the use of smartphones, smile analysis as a main or auxiliary method for human identification becomes of great importance for expert routine. The objective of this work is to explore the use of smile photographs as a method to identify individuals, as well as to describe the techniques and methods for their application in the forensic context and, finally, to report their accuracy and reliability for effective identification of individuals, crime investigation, pathology identification and age estimation. To this end, a bibliographical search was carried out on the research platforms: Pubmed, Scielo and Google Scholar.
