Abstract

Objective: This article sought to describe the vulnerabilities that predispose women to obstetric violence. Method: This is an integrative literature review, of a qualitative and descriptive nature, conducted in the second half of 2022, using the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline), and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Data were analyzed through pre-analysis, material exploration, and processing of results. Results: After analysis and exploration of the materials, three categories emerged that explained the vulnerabilities that predispose women to obstetric violence: individual vulnerabilities, programmatic vulnerabilities, and social vulnerabilities. Conclusion: The integrative review showed that obstetric violence results from the interaction between individual, programmatic, and social vulnerabilities, revealing itself as a complex phenomenon rooted in historical, cultural, and institutional inequalities.
