This study aimed to understand the main challenges faced by Physical Educationteachers in their pedagogical practice in schools. The research is characterized as a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The respondents were three Physical Education teachers from the Municipal Education Network of the city of Teresina, Piauí. The instrument used for data collection was an open- ended questionnaire, developed by the researchers. The instrument was applied in person. Refusal to answer the questionnaire was considered an exclusion criterion, and one of the inclusion criteria was being a high school teacher for at least 3 years. The questions were designed taking into account the experiences lived by the students themselves during their supervised internship in the schools studied, aligned with the objectives of the study. The main results obtained point to the lack of adequate spaces for conducting physical education classes, as well as the lack of teaching materials and the impartiality of students in certain activities, both practical and theoretical. Given this, the challenges faced by Physical Education teachers in their daily school life are apparent, requiring intervention from the competent authorities who run the school. This intervention should aim at the application of new teaching strategies, aligned with the themes addressed by the National Common Curriculum Base (BNCC), which use practical, didactic approaches and active methodologies, making classes more attractive to students. Thus, students will be able to understand Physical Education as a relevant subject for their development as citizens.
