This article aimed to analyze the role of piezosurgery as an adjunctive technique in reducing inflammatory processes, preserving tissues, and decreasing postoperative morbidity in dental procedures. Piezosurgery is a technology based on ultrasonic vibrations that enables selective cutting of mineralized tissues while preserving adjacent anatomical structures. This study consists of a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory literature review conducted through a bibliographic search of the PubMed/MEDLINE, SciELO, LILACS, Google Scholar, and BBO databases. Descriptors related to piezosurgery, inflammation, healing, and postoperative morbidity were used in Portuguese and English. Following the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria and screening based on PRISMA principles, 14 studies were included in the final sample. The results demonstrated that piezosurgery offers advantages over conventional techniques, particularly in terms of reduced surgical trauma, less intraoperative bleeding, preservation of critical anatomical structures, lower postoperative pain intensity, greater preservation of bone vitality, and reduced thermal necrosis. However, some studies found no statistically significant differences in edema or bone healing. It is concluded that piezosurgery represents a safe and effective alternative for dental procedures, despite its inherent operational limitations.
